Multi
Sport Promotions was founded with the desire to produce
top-quality multi-sport events on Vancouver Island. Our first event was
the Double Trouble Off-Road Duathlon in 1994.
Since that time we have put on eleven New Balance
Half Iron triathlons, 3 off-road duathlons, 2 road duathlons,
1 mountain bike race, a Splash and Dash, 2 off-road
triathlons and 3 cyclo-cross race. We also help in course design, promotion, set
up and volunteering at 10-25 other events a year. Our events and the interest in them have continued
to grow since our inception.
We receive requests for information about our
events locally, provincially, nationally and globally.
The President of Multi Sport Promotions is Normon
Thibault. Normon competed in his first triathlon on
a dare in 1987. Since
being last out of the water in his first race he has
gone on to be a 2X National Age Group Champion, and
the 2000 Age Group World Champion at the Xterra Off-Road
Triathlon in Hawaii. He has represented Canada at three world championship
events. Norm competed in the2001 Mizone-Endurazone Adventure Race - a 28-day adventure stage race
in New Zealand and the 2004 8-day Trans
Alps race in Europe.
He has raced, volunteered and organized over
200 multi-sport events. As well as
athletic endeavours, he has also contributed to local
publications such as Coast Magazine.
He is well grounded in the multi-sport community
and has served on the Board of Directors of Triathlon
British Columbia. He also writes an
online column for Triathlete Magazine.
Wendy Simms From racing around the BMX track to 3 World Championships
representing Canada in Cyclocross;
Wendy knows bike racing.
Her commitment to the sport, health and promoting
cycling to girls is stronger than anyone.
Besides helping to set up courses, promote the
events and do registration Wendy also leads the beginners
for their pre-race clinic and leads the kids in their
races. Her support
for the events is incredible.
Corey
Piket Started riding a bike at age three, raced
BMX, worked as a bike messenger, races road as a cat
3 racer, owned a mountain bike with bull moose handlebars,
and spent more money on bikes than he cares to remember
Corey now is addicted to cyclocross racing and working
in the pits at cyclocross races.
He has traveled with the Canadian cyclocross
team to Europe twice to help
with mechanicals. Corey
has done running races and triathlons but nothing compares
to riding a bike. He has been involved with growing cyclocross
on Vancouver Island and just recently opened Oak Bay Bikes Nanaimo.
Volunteers, organizational specialists and
dedicated individuals make up the bulk of our team. Each event takes between three volunteers for
a Splash and Dash to 160+ volunteers for the New Balance
Half Iron and innumerable hours to make a successful
event. We rely
on and salute our many volunteers; without them our
events would not be possible.
