MULTI-SPORT PROMOTIONS
::
Email: Multi-Sport Promotions Multi Sport Promotions was founded with the desire to
produce top-quality multi-sport events on Vancouver
Island. Our first event was the Double Trouble Off-Road
Duathlon in 1994. Since that time we have put on seven
New Balance Half Iron triathlons, off-road duathlons,
road duathlons, a mountain bike race, a Splash and Dash,
and an off-road triathlon. Our events and the interest
in them have continued to grow since our inception. We
receive requests for information about our events
locally, provincially, nationally and globally.
Normon Thibault
The President of Multi Sport Promotions is Normon
Thibault. Normon competed in his first triathlon on a
dare in 1987. Since being last out of the water in his
first race he has gone on to be a National Age Group
Champion, and the 2000 Age Group World Champion at the
Xterra Off-Road Triathlon in Hawaii. He has represented
Canada at three world championship events. Norm competed
in the 2001 Mizone-Endurazone Adventure Race - a 28-day
adventure stage race in New Zealand. He has raced,
volunteered and organized over 200 multi-sport events.
As well as athletic endeavors, he has also contributed
to local publications such as Coast Magazine. He is well
grounded in the multi-sport community and has served on
the Board of Directors of Triathlon British Columbia.
Alison Keple
Alison has been involved with Multi Sport
Promotions since 1997. She has been a part of several
aspects of race organization, including chasing down
sponsors, managing race-day communications, coordinating
volunteers, renting equipment for race weekend, site
set-up and take-down, and dealing with the variety of
things, from disastrous to amusing, that inevitably crop
up on race day. She has completed races from local
sprint triathlons to Ironman Canada, and always enjoys
her view from the back of the pack.
Graeme Martindale
Graeme has volunteered at the New Balance
Half Iron since 1996. He has raced, volunteered for, and
helped organize triathlons since 1992. Graeme was a
competitive swimmer at age 6, and has gone on to win
various provincial and national age-group triathlon
titles. He is the 2001 overall age-group World Champion
and has been awarded Age-Group athlete of the year by
Triathlon Canada. Graeme always enjoys assisting Norm Thibault at the New Balance Half Iron, and has assumed
greater responsibility at this premier event each year.
Al Niezen
Al is recent addition to Multi-Sport Promotions,
getting involved in 2001. Al has competed in cycling for
five years and in running for over 20 years, having
completed numerous races in each of these sports
including the Boston Marathon and National Marathon
Championships. In the year 2000 he commenced his first
season in triathlons and has been an enthusiastic
participant, supporter and organizer since. Al has won
both the short and long distance Provincial Triathlon
Championships in his age group and most recently has
completed the Ironman Canada Triathlon, finishing in the
top 10% overall. He is currently striving to become a
certified coach as well as competing at the national
level.
Everyone Else
Volunteers, organizational specialists and dedicated
individuals make up the bulk of our team. Each event
takes between three volunteers for a Splash and Dash
to 160+ volunteers for the New Balance Half Iron and
innumerable hours to make a successful event. We rely
on and salute our many volunteers; without them our
events would not be possible.
